"To assess heat stress, there are TWO MAIN indicators: the number of standing cows and the number of respiratory movements," said Liliia Ivanoglu, a consultant at the CC AMP, during a master class at TOV "Agrofirma im. Shevchenka" on August 17.
Among the factors that reduce the possibility of heat stress in cows, the expert included:
- Timely removal of manure,
- The presence of ventilators - not necessarily automatic, the main thing - strict temperature control,
- Roof height - with a low roof, even with ventilators, it is not possible to provide proper conditions for animals,
- Comfortable stalls,
- Roofing - for example, on the roof of cowsheds "Agrofirmа im. Shevchenkа" is not only a metal profile, but also a material that provides thermal insulation.
In particular, in the barn of the farm TOV "Agrofirma im. Shevchenka", which takes into account all these factors, at an outdoor temperature of 31.1 degrees and humidity of more than 50%, indoor indicators were as follows:
- Temperature 28.5-29.3 degrees,
- Humidity 42%,
- Standing cows 6%, in stalls 94%,
- The number of respiratory movements is 40-66.
With such indicators on the farm fertility practically does not change, and milk yields even at higher temperatures are reduced minimally - by 1-1.5 liters per cow.
TOV "Agrofirma im. Shevchenka" are members of the Association of Milk Producers since 2010. The farm has introduced a block system. Responsible employees are assigned to each unit and actively cooperate with each other. Today, the farm has 2,200 head of total livestock, including 900 dairy cows, 3,400 hectares of land, "extra" milk, the daily milk yield reaches 35 liters per cow, and the average annual milk yield is 10,000 liters.
Our next platform for the exchange of experience - STOV "Peremoga", Zolotonosha district, Cherkasy region.
