The number of industrial cows is increasing

As of September 1, there are 1,655.2 thousand cows in Ukraine, which is 5.9% less than in 2020. Of these, 425.2 thousand cows were housing in the industrial sector, and 1 million 230 thousand heads - in households.

This was reported by analyst of the Association of Milk Producers Yana Linetska.

The positive dynamics on industrial farms has been maintained for several months in a row. And in the annual dynamics, following the results of 8 months of 2021 against 2020, their number even increased by 500 heads, and this is an average-sized farm.

The largest increase was observed in Kherson (+ 14%; 6.5 thousand), Ternopil (+ 7.9%; 13.6 thousand), Ivano-Frankivsk (+ 7.5%; 4.3 thousand), Kyiv (+ 6.8%; 33.2 thousand) and Volyn (+ 5.1%; 18.7 thousand heads) regions.

In practice, these figures are also confirmed. During the year, a number of farms launched new and modernized dairy complexes or parts of them, some of which should be completed by the end of the year. New European-style dairy farms are planned to open in 2022. Therefore, if there are no force majeure, the industry will continue to gain momentum.

"Unfortunately, such positive changes do not yet give much change in the volume of milk produced, as in the farms of the household sector the opposite situation is observed: for eight months of this year the number of cows here decreased by 7.9% - to 1 million 230 thousand," - AMP analyst Yana Linetska notes.

Thus, in the same Kherson region, where the industrial herd of cows continues to grow, the largest decline in livestock was observed in the homestead sector - minus 16.2%, to 37.9 thousand heads. Also, the housing of cows on the farm of the population of Zaporizhia region was reduced by more than 15% - 30.3 thousand cows.
