The labor market in 2020. How did the heads of agricultural companies evaluate it?

The team of the recruitment agency "Agrojob" talked to colleagues and collected comments from the heads of agricultural companies on the activities in 2020 and expectations for next year.

Bekasova Halyna Mykolaivna, Head of the Livestock Complex of PRAT "STEPNOY BREEDING PLANT"

This year we found two specialists in our team, thanks to the recruitment agency "Agrojob". It is said that some managers have begun to value certain employees more because of quarantine.  But not us, because working on a farm is a team effort.  And I am confident in my team of professionals, where we support and insure each other. We did not have any problems with the level of wages, because we keep it under clear control.  All that is left for our colleagues is to work, teaching 100%.

Оlexander Taranіuk, head of Beef UA

This year has been difficult for the company. Exports of our products became more difficult in the second half of the year due to the ban on transit of Ukrainian products (cattle and small cattle and animal products).  It was on September 4, when we announced the ban on transportation through Russia, that we were forced to deliver animals to our partners in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan by sea.  This increased the burden on logistics and consequently reduced earnings for both producers and exporters.

Denуs Chebotar, Executive Director of DK VET LLC

At the beginning of the year, during the first wave of coronavirus, when we called candidates and invited them for an interview, they refused.  Searchers noted that they were waiting for the quarantine to end.  This greatly complicated the selection of staff.  But the good news is that quarantine has had little effect on sales.  Because we sell veterinary drugs and they are always in demand.  Honestly, there were difficulties with the introduction of new products on farms. It takes a long time to make online sales.  And coming to all customers is not always convenient.  We hope that in 2021 the business will adapt and we will continue to actively promote new products on the market.

Nataliia Gurieieva, Human Resources Director, Fenix Agro

Since our company is critical, as we are suppliers of animal feed, the quarantine has affected us as it has affected most companies. There was a lot of work and we could not afford to work remotely, even during quarantine.  Since the Ukrainian market was transformed in 2020, we have also changed and we have left the branch work.  However, there was no decrease in sales and customer outflows.  We even raised expectations. We hope for 2021 as a year of stability, a year of increasing sales, attracting new customers. As for recruitment. We have high requirements for candidates and it is difficult to get into our company.  2020 was no exception for the candidates.  However, this year we had good changes, as there were many more candidates in the labor market.

Despite the negative situation in wages and employment, the labor market is recovering fairly quickly.  And we hope that 2021 will be a year of radical changes, risky but effective design decisions and rapid financial upswings.

For reference: Agrojob is the first staffing agency in the agricultural sector of Ukraine.  He has extensive experience in recruiting staff in the agricultural sector for the following positions: veterinarian;  technologist;  farm manager;  agronomist;  combine operator;  tractor driver;  milking machine operator.  Recruitment for the ITF is carried out FREE of charge, provided the farm is a member of the Association of Milk Producers.
