As of May 1, 2021 in Ukraine by 5.2% less milk, but dairy farms do not lose position

As of May 1, following the results of four months of 2021, 2 million 519.3 thousand tons of milk were produced in Ukraine (-5.2% against last year, when 2 million 656.6 thousand tons were produced in 4 months). However, the industrial sector has hardly lost position.

This was reported by the analytical department of the Association of Milk Producers.

During the analyzed period, industrial farms produced 901.9 thousand tons of milk, which is only 0.4% less than the previous year.

It will be recalled that the number of cows in dairy farms on the same reporting date decreased by 1.3% compared to the previous year - to 424.7 thousand cows.

"It should be noted that in January-April 2021, industrial farms provided 35.8% of the total shaft. For example, in 2020 this share was 34.1%, and five years before - only 30.8%, "- said AMР analyst Yana Linetska.

Traditionally, with the beginning of summer, when cows in the households are grazing en masse, the share of industrial milk in the overall structure decreased, although not critically. With the onset of cold weather, the percentage of industrial milk increased again. And, according to the results of the year, the share of industrial milk in the overall structure produced, according to the State Statistics Service (SSSU), averaged 30-31%.

We pay tribute to those farms that continue to increase milk production and work on efficiency. It is gratifying that such farms have been growing recently. According to the SSSU, Ternopil (+ 13.3%), Zaporizhia (+ 7.5%), Vinnytsia (+ 6.2%) and Khmelnytsky (+ 6%) oblasts increased milk production the most during the analyzed period.

According to the results of 4 months, the top 5 regions in terms of the volume of milk produced by industrial farms are as follows:

  • Poltava - 130.8 thousand tons,
  • Cherkasy - 97.4 thousand tons,
  • Kharkiv - 81.0 thousand tons,
  • Chernihiv - 80.0 thousand tons ,
  • Kyiv - 74.5 thousand tons.

Meanwhile, households produced 1 million 617.4 thousand tons of milk, which is 7.6% less than in the same period of 2020. Production managed to increase only in Ternopil (+ 2.8%) region.
